Abstract

Information Technology (IT) is a modern buzz word. It has provided facilities for the free flow of information. The world has come a global village with Information Superhighways created through networks like the Internet. Information is a requisite for human development as air is essential for the survival of all living organisms on earth, including human beings. Information is a fundamental resource which is essential for survival in today’s competitive and wired world. The pace of change brought about by new information technologies has a key effect on the way people live, work, and play worldwide. New technological developments have already profoundly affected libraries. Almost every function carried out in a library has been altered to some extent by advances in electronics, computerization, and telecommunications. New technologies have been merged in the library science. So, libraries have been changed to Digital Libraries, Virtual Libraries, Hybrid Libraries, Library without Walls, Library 2.0, etc. Modern libraries are very rapidly adapted to the new technologies with the help of Virtual Reality, Data Analytics, Social Media, Embedded Digital Libraries, web technologies, mobile technologies and “Internet of Things”. These can be accessed from anywhere, any time.
